I know the title of this blog sounds like I went for my first haircut, but it’s a little different than it would appear. First off, daddy was out of town on business and mommy was busy getting my sister London out of bed and ready for the day. I was pretty bored and looking for something to do. I had just seen a commercial on the television regarding hair products, style, do it at home type of thing.

So, in my curious stage, I walked over to wear mommy keeps the scissors. My parents have always told us to stay away from the scissors, knives and other sharp objects and we always have. But I’m a big girl now and I know how to handle scissors (we use them in school for art projects). I was interested in cutting a little of my hair off.

I started on the left side of my head, with no mirror. I squeezed the scissors and cut hear the sound of the blades cutting my straight, blonde hair. The next sound was something I wasn’t anticipating. It was the sound of my mom screaming, “Brooklyn, what are your doing? Oh my God!” I said, “don’t worry mommy, I was just cutting my hair.”

She raced over and took the scissors out of my hands. She was so mad at me. I felt bad. I didn’t want to get her upset, I just wanted to look pretty. My mother kept checking my hair trying to find a solution to the problem. Should she just cut it all around? No, she said, it would be way too short and I wouldn’t be recognizable.

Instead, she called her favorite hair salon in Naples called Air Blowouts and Extensions. She asked if they have ever done extensions for kids and they said yes. So, mom booked me an appointment. They made these extensions that look just like my real hair color. They then fixed them to my hair that I had cut and then used scissors to have it all blend in.

In a couple of months, I’ll be able to get them out and my hair will be back to normal. By the way, they give you a shampoo and scrub and make you feel so special in the salon that it’s tempting to try the other side!!!! Just kidding, Mom.
